It's always the last place you look - controlling block assignment to content types in Views
Yet another loooong search to find a solution. Not too bad, this time. But it did take some insight.
I'm using the Backlinks view to provide a tracking element to see which stories link to other nodes (stories, blog posts, etc...) in order to see the chain of influence.
The problem I was experiencing was the What Links Here tab was appearing on the site's basic pages such as the home page. I don't want this to appear on basic pages, so I had to dig around a bit to find the solution.

Chat functionality
One feature of the site I'm really interested in offering is the ability for people to live chat. I think it adds a nice dimension to build cameraderie in real time. It certainly isn't a requirement from the go, but is on my "must have" list for down the road.
Hit that on my final list today and started looking through options. It's a near-perfect example of how adaptable and yet frustrating Drupal (and any complex CMS, really) can be to work with.

Building the site
I've been conflicted about what to explain on this post and finally decided on simplicity. Putting the site together was very difficult, mostly because of the massive range of options available through the drupal modules. And also through the limitations, in some cases what seemed fairly straightforward and common needs have not yet been programmed into the modules or require custom PHP code to enable.

THINKTANKING
I've been interested in thinktanks for a long time. I love working in a group, watching as ideas bounce around and become ever more developed. Sometimes I like to be the leader and sometimes I like to be a synergistic supporter, sitting on the sideline, handing out towels and Gatorade as needed. Both can be extremely rewarding and wonderfully entertaining, but they can also be hard to find.
